explanation
Marilyn Manson’s “Guns, God and Government Tour” was a world tour that took place in 2000-2001 and was the band’s eighth tour and fourth tour spanning multiple legs. The tour was in support of the release of their fourth full-length studio album, Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death). The tour began on October 27, 2000 and continued through September 2, 2001, with a total of 107 shows in six legs, including Eurasia, Japan, and North America, with two of the planned 109 shows being canceled.
The tour was highly dramatic, with average show lengths of 1 hour and 40 minutes, and sets designed with Cold War, religious, and “Celebritarian” (a word coined from the words celebrity and authoritarian) imagery in mind. Manson changed outfits several times during the show, each with its own distinctive expression.
The tour also had its share of incidents. For example, the first North American leg had two cancellations. In addition, during a performance at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, Marilyn Manson’s drummer, Ginger Fish, fell from the drum stand during the stage finale and broke her collarbone.
